about

My third mix for While_you_were_Sleeping.

As I recall, things did not go so well, with Live freezing up on the last or second-to-last track, the crowd applauding and then me foolishly trying to continue the mix - but then that could have been any live set...

Most of the material in this mix was pretty new at the time, with the exceptions of 'Midland', which was originally created in '99 and 'Anti-Glare' which was remixed for this set. The sound is leaning ever-so-slightly towards drum-n-bass, and at the time I was also having fun playing with reverb, vocoders and sampling British gangster movies.

Ode 2 3 was played on a Radio Active techno show at one point, which was quite possibly not the best genre match. I vaguely remember the DJ describing it as 'more like breaks' and then crediting it to Panoptica...

The fragile nature of this live mix and the ability to record midi movements into the Live sequencer prompted me to take this set back to the studio for some post-mix surgery. The resulting mix has been quite heavily edited (though I can still hear a number of ways in which it could be improved) and so is not entirely accurate as an example of 'live mixing'. However I'm philosophical about this and invite anyone who's less than impressed to come and hear me play live, where you can get the full picture for the measly sum of eight dollars or so.

---

This version is a subtle remix, to give to NZ electronic label Empathy as a demo.

The main difference from the live set was that Four-Track was been added, and the second part of Once Around was removed, to keep the total duration the same.

There were also a handful of small tweaks and changes, and LDC was split out into its two respective parts.
